The evening here starts before dinner. Capo d'Orlando faces north-west, so for much of the year the sun sets into the sea, and behind the headland in high summer. The passeggiata, an institution here
Capo d'Orlando was one of the first small towns in Sicily to close its centre to traffic, and in the evening it shows: the pedestrian streets fill up, shops stay open late, and people walk up and down for hours. Granita, gelato and brioche
The local habit that most surprises visitors: granita isn't only breakfast. People have it mid-evening too, with the brioche col tuppo, and for locals it's as ordinary as a coffee. Several long-standing pastry shops in the centre and along the seafront stay open late. What people eat here →
By the sea, after dinner
Along the Andrea Doria seafront and towards the marina there are places with tables outside, open late in summer. This is where you go for a long aperitivo or a drink after dinner, with the sea a few steps away. In the warm months it runs to one or two in the morning; off season, the evening is much shorter.
Off season, what stays open
From October the town changes rhythm, and it should be said: many seafront places close or cut their hours, and life moves into the centre, where bars and restaurants work all year.
