The beaches of Salina
Salina is the only island with fresh water, and it shows on the beaches too: green behind you, pebbles in front, and none of the crowds of the other islands.
Pollara, the famous one
Half a collapsed crater above the sea, white houses suspended over a pebble beach below the cliff. It's the image everyone knows from Il Postino. Note: the descent is steep and access is sometimes restricted because of rockfall risk — check locally.
Rinella and its black sand
On the south side, the fishing hamlet has a dark beach, a hydrofoil landing and a couple of lidos. It's the island's most practical beach for families.
Lingua, the lagoon and the granita
Out on the eastern point lies the beach beside the salt lagoon, with the lighthouse and the bars where everyone stops after a swim. Not the prettiest, but the most comfortable.
The seabed
Almost everywhere pebbles and water that deepens quickly: excellent for snorkelling, less so for small children, who do better at Rinella.

The half-crater collapsed into the sea, made famous by Il Postino: you walk down, and the sunset over Filicudi and Alicudi is the most celebrated in the Aeolians.

The fishing hamlet on the south coast, with its black-sand beach and hydrofoil landing: convenient and authentic.
