The beaches of Capo d'Orlando
Everything changes within two kilometres of coast: gentle sand to the east, pebbles and deep water below the headland. Choosing the right beach here changes the day.
Sand or pebbles
Towards San Gregorio and eastwards the seabed is sandy and shelves gently: that's the coast for children. Below the headland, instead, pebbles and water that deepens immediately: that's where you go with mask and fins.
The wind
This coast faces north: when the tramontana blows, the sea rises quickly. On those days it's worth moving east towards Brolo, where the coast bends and shelters.
Lidos and free beach
Along the seafront and at San Gregorio there are establishments with umbrellas and rentals; further from the centre you'll find free stretches. In August there's one rule: arrive before 9:30am if you want to park nearby.
The evening
After six the beaches empty and the water stays warm: it's the best time for a swim, and you stay on for the sunset. The six places to watch it →
